The Monastery (AD-deir) Main Trail
This wonderful trail leads to a large number of sites in Petra including the Treasury, the Facades Street, the Grand Temple, the Mosaics and the Monastery. After you have a navigated the 730 steps up to the Monastery, the trail continues through breathtaking landscapes and magnificent valleys. Alternatively, you may decide to head back directly to the restaurants near the steps to the Monastery. You do not need a guide or GPS device with our E-trial to find the Monastery.
This is an easier hike than the High Place of Sacrifice Trail in Petra since it is 1.9km (1.2 miles) shorter and more importantly, you need to navigate significantly fewer steps.
Inevitably, by hiking this trail, you will see fewer monuments in Petra, but you will be able to spend more time in the center of Petra and the hike is overall less strenuous.
